Club events committee – Dates for your diary

The club events committee are in the process of planning the following events, please make a note of the dates for your diary. Further details will be sent out by club email and/or posted on the website/club facebook pages as they become available.

  2. Cross country presentation evening – Friday 22nd March (TBC)
  3. ROC Newbury 10 km – Sunday 26th May

For anyone not at the club presentation evening in December, Matt Green has recently joined the club event committee as the club social secretary. Matt is leading the arrangements for a variety of social events for all club members. The first two proposed social events are:-

  1. Quiz night – Friday 30th March
  2. Comedy club night – Friday 5th April. Please note tickets will need to be purchased in advance, but Matt is planning to purchase them as a group, to take advantage of the group discount prices.

Can you please let Matt know if you are interested in attending any of these events.

Website update photo request

As part of the 2019 website update it would be good to get some recent photos of current club members across all areas of the club i.e. road, XC, track and field etc. Ideally it would be good to have a selection of action & group shots.

To save lots of large emails I have created a club Flickr account to store the photos.

If anyone has any good (preferably high resolution) photos that they are happy to be used on the website, can you please drop me an email for the username/password and upload them to the Flickr account?

Oxfordshire Cross Country League Round 3 – Horspath, Oxford – 6th January

Message from Phil Marshall

A reminder to everyone that the next Oxfordshire Cross Country League fixture is this Sunday 6th January at Horspath, Oxford.  It would be fantastic if we can have another big Newbury AC turnout. 🎽🇨🇷

Fixture details, times, directions and course maps can be found on the Oxon XC league website

Note on the course from Barry Cornelius: “The course routes are different from those of past OXL fixtures held at this venue.”

Two main differences are:

  1. The routes don’t climb as high as previous events.
  2. The very muddy section between I and J (see course maps) is in use for the U15 and above races.

Presentation evening 2018

Sarah Fowler receives her commemorative vase and flowers

The 2018 club presentation evening was held on Friday 28th December.

The evening started with a presentation by Bob on behalf of everyone at the club to thank Sarah Fowler for her contribution to the club in her previous committee role as Chairwoman.

As with previous years the main feature of the event was the presentation of awards for outstanding performances during the 2018 Track & Field season and to the winners of the Club Road Leagues.

A full list of track and field award winners can be found here. Anyone who didn’t receive their awards please see your coach. Continue reading

Road running – Winter training routes

To aid club members in knowing the upcoming road running routes a trial winter routes page is now available. The page has a schedule of the road running routes (with maps and route descriptions) from the 3rd January 2019 to 28th February 2019.

It is hoped that the page will benefit anyone who knows they will be late, doesn’t plan to return to the Rugby club and/or wants to add a few extra miles as people start to prepare for Spring marathons.

If the page is found to be useful the schedule will be updated for March/April and a similar page created for the summer routes when the club returns to Fifth Road. If anyone has any feedback please send it to Andy McKendrick.
