Josie receiving her silver medal

Josie Robertson produced another excellent performance yesterday at Milton Keynes to finish 2nd in the U13 Girls race in Round 2 of the British Athletics Cross-challenge series. Josie was just 5 seconds behind the winner Scarlett Livingstone from Exeter, the pair now share the lead in the Under 13 age group.

Newbury AC SPOTY: call for nominations

This year’s end of season presentation evening will see the first ever Newbury AC Sports Personality of the Year Award!

We’re looking for your nominations to make a shortlist of contenders, with a live public vote on the evening to decide the winner. As with the BBC award, we’re looking for someone who’s been inspirational, motivational or just damn impressive in what they do – whether in track, field, cross country, road running or everyday club life. Any club member is eligible – old, young, fast or slow.

This idea will only work with input from you guys, so please email your nominations to Mike Robbins  or E-J Bailey before 21st November, with a brief description of why you think they deserve the award. There’s no limit to the number of nominations (but don’t vote for yourself, nobody likes a show-off).

Oxford Mail Cross-Country League: Round 1, 4th November, Newbury

Report by Phil Marshall:

Newbury Athletic Club hosted the season’s first Oxfordshire Cross Country League fixture at the weekend on an overcast day at Newbury Showground with great success. A huge thanks goes to all the volunteers who helped with marshalling, timekeeper recording, car park attending, race hares and sweepers, and especially those who took time out the previous day to set up the course.

Our Senior Women took up where they left off last season with an emphatic team victory, Sophie Crumly took the win just ahead of teammate and first veteran woman Jess Franklin, with 4th place Victoria Duncan completing the winning team.

Sam Hart was making his debut in the blue vest of Newbury AC and produced a fantastic display in his first race at the Senior Men’s 8.5k distance. He finished a close second behind Abingdon AC’s Alex Wall-Clarke, but was the first U20 man in the highly competitive 335 strong field. Sam was backed up well by strong performances from James Craggs in 8th and Matt Green in 11th.

Josie Robertson continued her early season cross-country form to storm to an emphatic gun to tape victory in the U13 girls race. There were also great results from Oliver Hamlin 4th U11 boy, Luci Robertson 5th U15 girl, Tobias Allen 6th U17 boy, Rachel Allen 2nd V45 women, Jenny Eaton 3rd V55 women and Liz Harkness 1st V65 women.

Cross-country 2018/19

Message from Phil Marshall

As most of you know we are in the Oxfordshire Cross Country League (often referred to as Oxford Mail after the newspaper that ‘sponsor’ the league). The league has 5 fixtures which are on the first Sunday of every month from November 2018 to March 2019. There is no athlete entry cost for these events, it is all paid for by the club. If you raced in at least one fixture last season then I will automatically enter you this season, so you will have a number/bib waiting for you at the events. If you didn’t race last year or are new to the club then please contact me if you would like me to enter you or you have questions (note if I’ve spoken to you directly about cross country at training etc. then I will also enter you). Cross Country is open to any club member, male and female of any standard, there are age grades and it is a great event where every finishing position can help the team placing.

The league website is http://www.oxonxc.org.uk with event and fixture information, but they are as below so please put in your calendar.
