This Thursday 22nd March is this last one indoors at St Bart’s sports hall. We will be running a traditional circuit to finish off our indoor training. The outdoor interval session will run as usual.
We then move outside on 29th March to Browns Meadow, Fifth Road.
There will be NO junior training sessions on Thursday 5th and Thursday 12th April as we close for the Easter holiday.
On 19th April all juniors will be invited up to the track at Cookham Common. More details to follow nearer the time.

Izzy Fry produced another excellent performance, finishing 4th in the Senior Girls’ race at Temple Newsom.. Izzy started out in the lead pack of 12 runners, she ran strongly the hills and worked up to the top 7 but she then had a slight blip running head on into a strong wind before moving back up to the leaders. On the second to last hill she moved into 3rd but got stuck in the mud at the bottom of the final descent and lost 3rd place by a couple of seconds. She drove up the hill to the finish but could not quite close it back up. A superb 4th place, one second behind 3rd, 8 seconds behind the runner-up, Kirsty Walker of Reading, and 18 secs behind the winner Holly Page.
Luci Robertson was 8th out of the pen in the Junior Girls race, but worked through strongly to finish 222nd, and get the important final 6th place counter in the Berkshire team.
Entries are now open for the club’s Easter Handicap to be held on Sunday, 1st April, 10:30am at Northcroft. The race is held over the same 1.8 mile, multi-terrain course as used for the Boxing Day handicap though run in the reverse (clock-wise) direction.
The event is free to enter and open to all members, their families and friends. To enter please e-mail Irwin Fairclough with name(s) and recent best 5K time by Thursday 29th March – there will be no entries available on the day.
We also need about 10 volunteers to help with the start / finish and with on-course marshalling – please e-mail me if you are available to help. We aim to have everything finished by 11am.
This evening’s Junior session at St Bart’s has been CANCELLED due to the continuing poor weather conditions.
Report from Phil Marshall:
Jess Franklin and Izzy Fry with a clear lead in the Women’s race
The club travelled to Lawns Park in Swindon to face the toughest cross country course so far this season in the Oxfordshire Cross Country League Round 4 fixture. However plenty of testing hills and shin deep mud on a technical course proved to the liking of some as we had a brilliant 1-2, with Jess Franklin winning her first ever Senior Women’s Oxfordshire League race ahead of Izzy Fry in 2nd. A fantastic season for the pair means that even with another fixture still to come Jess has now secured the Veteran 1 title, Izzy has claimed the U20 and Overall Women’s title, and with a huge lead in the team championship thanks also to a fantastic 4th place finish for Mireille Cook, Newbury AC are odds on to retain their title from last season.
The Men are also on track to claim back-to-back league championships with another
Alex Muir leading eventual winner Simon Fisher of OCAC
comprehensive team victory led by Alex Muir who was second to Oxford City AC’s Simon Fisher in a field of 219 finishers. Joining Alex in the successful scoring A team were Matt Green, Anthony Sudlow, Mike Robbins, Steve Barnes, Stephen Elsmere and Mike Wheeler, who all finished in the top 33 places.
In the Junior races we had to cope without our top ranked U13 girl, Josie Robertson, who was struck down with flu, but such is the strength of the squad that Sophie Bhatt (9th), Miriam Cooper (11th) and Phoebe Ryder (12th) were able to match their closest rivals Swindon AC, Highworth RC and Oxford City AC to ensure they still remained top of the table with one race remaining.
Ethan Robertson in the U9 boys had his best race of the season to finish 2nd and his big sister Luci Robertson also excelled in the tricky conditions finishing 4th U15 girl.
A big thank you to everyone that competed, every place really does count and the team spirit this year in all categories has been superb. Looking forward to another big turnout and successful final race on 4th March at Hill End Centre, Farmoor.

For the past 9 months we’ve been running a Beginners / Improvers group at 10am on Wednesdays in Northcroft / Goldwell Parks. It has been really well received. The vast majority of participants having significantly improved their 5K times and had lots of fun along the way. We now have an established group 8-10 regulars and would like to build this up further in 2018.
If you know of anyone who is interested in starting running or in taking their running a little more seriously in the new year then please put them in contact with Irwin Fairclough who will be happy to provide more details.
The sessions are free and there is no requirement to be a club member (though some club members are part of the regular group and more are always welcome!). We meet in the entrance to Waitrose at 9:50am every Wednesday for a prompt start at 10am
