30 Years of the Great South Run

Newbury AC’s Mick Cornwall joined Lizzy Yarnold, Britain’s most decorated Winter Olympian, and a group of 6 other runners who like Mick have raced every Great South Run in the events 30-year history.

The Simplyhealth Great South Run, which takes place on Sunday 20 October, has grown from humble beginnings in 1990, with 2,000 runners to over 20,000 people taking part in the world’s leading 10-mile run in Portsmouth.

The group met at Emirates Spinnaker Tower, which provides the iconic backdrop before the second mile to celebrate the events anniversary.

Mick’s best time for the race is 61:40 in 1996 and he still holds the V50 10 mile club record of 62:00 achieved in 2000.
