Southern Counties Veterans League – round 1 – 30th April

Calm, near perfect conditions greeted Newbury’s Veterans for their opening Southern Counties Western division fixture at Horspath on Monday night. Both the men’s and women’s teams containing some familiar and new faces performed well to finish 3rd and 6th respectively on the night with points accumulated across the track, field and age groups.

 Individual victories were gained by the following

  • Bob Broadbridge M50 Hammer
  • Wayne Lillis M50 1500
  • Craig Beecham M35 Long Jump
  • Linda Pitts W50 100
  • Linda Pitts W50 400
  • Jenny O’Connor W35 High Jump

 Newbury’s next fixture after this encouraging opener is not too far away (20th May) at Abingdon.

Oxford open – 24th April

Four members made the short trip to the Oxford Open Graded meeting at Horspath on Wednesday evening. Linda Pitts won race 2 of the 100m races in 15.18 on a rather blustery evening. Under 13 Clementine Barry was in the next race, finishing well for 2nd place in a time of 14.74. Also in the under 13’s Thea Osborne clocked 31.34 for 3rd place in race 2 of the 200m. Under 15 Miriam Cooper took 10 seconds off her previous best time in the 800m, taking the lead after 200m she held off all attempts made to overtake her, winning in 2min38.84.
