Basingstoke Speed Decathlon

In this unique and much loved event, four Newbury AC athletes attempted all ten decathlon events within a single hour, while a further two joined forces to tackle the team competition.

Forced to take on the decathlon rather than the heptathlon, Jenny O’Connor finished a very impressive 7th place overall, after gender and age gradings were taken into account.

Dan Tuttle started strongly with a 12.59s PB in the 100m, before ending the day in 14th.

Mike Robbins had only previously attempted half of the events in competition, but utilized his strengths – picking up the prize for the fastest 1500m of the day, to finish 19th.

Ryan Hill was pleased to make it through without injury, with two PBs a nice bonus on his way to 22nd.

Trinity O’Connor and Simon Barrett were joined by two others to share the ten events between them. After age grading, Simon scored the highest points score of the day in the 400m, and the second highest in the 100m. Trinity added over half a metre to her shot put PB as well as a decent high jump to give the team the bronze medal overall.
