Weekend Round-up 27th/28th January

The South of England Cross Country Championships were held on a very challenging course at Stamner Park, Brighton on Saturday.

In the Women’s U20 race Yaz Ryder came a very impressive 14th, with Rebecca Downie 53rd.
Newbury A.C.’s Senior Men battled 15km of mud, hills and continuous rain to come 16th team (and 1st Berkshire team) which we believe to be the highest position we’ve ever finished in this race, ahead of big clubs like Southampton A.C. and Reading A.C.
In a field of 740 finishers (and 55 scoring teams), Alex Muir was first NAC home in 58th, Mark Vardy 80th, Matthew Green 130th, Phil Marshall194th, Stephen Elsmere 264th, Dave Wright 449th.

Four club members completed the Romsey 5 mile event in completely different spring-like conditions on Sunday. Wayne Lillis was first of them home, finishing 38th overall (7th Male 50-59) in 30:51. Jenny Eaton was 1st Female 50-59 in 34:05 – a PB & new V55 Club Record.
Christina Pugsley finished in 35:12 (7th Female 30-39) &  Sheila Marshall ran a time of 41:52 (3rd Female 60-69).
