Weekend round-up: 28th Feb / 1st March

A busy weekend saw club members compete over the country, on the roads and in the throwing circles. The most pleasing results were at the Oxford Mail cross-country (see separate report) and at the Bath Half-Marathon were, relative newcomer, Mike Sheridan took almost 5 minutes off the club M65 record. There was also an U20 club record for Jamie Kuehnel in the Hammer (52.97m).

Club cross-country Championships (Updated 3/3: OML results revised to include Callum Fry): At the final league match of the season the following clinched club championships: Sophie Crumly (Senior Women); E-J Bailey (Veteran Women); Andrew Ind (Veteran Men); Trinity O’Connor (U13 Girls); Oscar Reeves (U11 Boys) & Callum Fry (U11 Boys). They join James Craggs (Senior Men); Yaz Ryder (U17 Women); Izzy Fry (U15 Girls); Sam Wright (U15 Boys), Ed Fry (U13 Boys)  and Maisie Jeger (U11 Girls) who has secured their titles prior to the final race. Bath Half-Marathon: Mike Sheridan finished was 1st M65 (337th overall) in a new club age-group record of 1:25:47. His time represents an Age-Graded score of 89.9 – putting him into first place in our Age-Graded league for 2015.  Charlotte Fowler ran 1:39:51 in her debut at the distance.

Goring 10K: Clare Quinn (V40) took the runner-up spot in the Female Vets category, finishing 96th overall in 44:29. Other Newbury AC finishers were: Hannah Coxhead (V35) 49:45; Carole Lowe (V55) 54:04 and Rose Metalli (V55) 57:03.

The Grizzly (approx. 20 miles) & The Cub (approx. 9 miles): The lovers of all things wet, muddy and hilly headed to Devon to take on the challenge of these infamous events. The good news is that everyone finished though some claim they will never do it again – we shall see!!! CLub finishers in The Grizzly were: Pete Leicester (92nd); Rick Wyatt (165th); Charlotte Winton (979th) and Christine Mardle (1026th). In The Cub we had: Bob Taylor (87th); Julie Coxhead (114th) and Tim Marsh (162nd).

Swindon Open Throws Triathlon: Two of our young throwers stepped-up their preparation for the Summer season with a successful work-out at the open meeting in Swindon. Charlotte Payne threw a PB of 38.81m in the hammer in her first competition as an U15. Jamie Kuehnel won the Hammer / Discus / Weight triathlon with throws of 52.97m, 37.55m and 17.44m respectively.
