Wessex Young Athletes League – Basingstoke July 1st

The 3rd Wessex Young Athlete’s match took place on a scorching hot 1st July at Basingstoke.

It was a very competitive U11 quad kids event. Most of the six teams managed to field a high number of athletes. Newbury had 8 girls and 9 boys (out of a maximum allowed of 10) this time and they all worked tremendously hard in the heat. Yet again our lead girl scorer was Anna Delavere. She is on an amazing streak this year and finished an excellent 4th girl overall. Our highest finishing boy was Harry Billet and he was 11th overall. The boys finished 5th and the girls 3rd (out of 6) and their joint result was 5th, but only a few points away from 3rd.

U13-U17 Boys: U13 Finley Hanham Shot Put A string 1st place, Grade4 PB of 7.91m. Also 2nd place Grade 3 in Discus with 21.5m and a Javelin PB of 22.01m. U13 75m Hurdles, Archie Matthews took 2nd in 16.7s. U13 High Jump, Ollie Lloyd Hole 1st place with a PB of 1.25m.Drew Radbourne also high jumped a PB of 1.15m followed by 7s off his 800m PB with 2:49.7. U15 800m Callum Potts A string, 3rd place 2:18.8 and High Jump 2nd place with 1.45m. Similarly U15 800m Nathan Delevere B string 3rd place with 2:40.1 followed by a PB of 1.25m for B string 3rd place in High Jump. U17 Lawrence Baker Won the Long Jump by 2cm with a PB Grade 4 jump of 5.79m followed by a PB Grade 4 100m in 11.8s. Reugen Langdon won the B string Long Jump also with a PB of 5.57m followed by a Grade 4 High Jump PB of 1.70m for 2nd place along with a 2nd in the Javelin. Ellis Russell ran a 26.8s PB in the 200m then joined Lawrence, Callum and Reuben for a scorching 4x100m relay in 48.0s for 2nd place.

U13 to U17 girls:

1st places:  Sophie Bhatt B string U15 1500m 5:33 & Bo Stewart U17 Long Jump 4.68m

2nd places: Thea Osborne U13 100m 14.8s; Phoebe Ryder U13 long jump 4.36m; Scarlett O’Connor U15 shot 7.64m 

AAA Grade performances : Grade 2: Phoebe Ryder U13 Long Jump 4.36m; Phoebe Ryder U13 200m 28.5s

Grade 3: Clementine Barry U13 800m 2:53

Grade 4: Thea Osborne U13 200m 30.6s; Heidi Loxton U15 75m Hurdles 13.2s; Bo Stewart U17 80m Hurdles 13.1s

Unfortunately we were 6th overall against some very large strong teams, but had a number of excellent individual performances. We look forward to the final match at Swindon on 1st July.
