Report by Junior Team Managers:
Newbury Athletic Club’s under 11 boys & girls quad team did exceptionally well, they bonded superbly as teams and went to all their events intent on doing their absolute best in representing their club.
Our Teams at this match consisted of the boys Freddie Wilson, Harry Billett, Oliver Hamlin, Kian, Passfield, Archie Matthews, Ben Telford & Sam Telford & the girls Thea Osborne, Zoe Gray, Sophie Filsell, Lola Thorne, Waheeda Wasterfall, Hannah Cox, Emily Cox, Josephine Winchester & Anna Delavere.
We saw personal bests from Freddie, Kian, Oliver, Harry, Archie, Ben & Sam from the boy’s team and Thea, Zoe, Sophie, Lola, Hannah, Emily & Anna from the girls team. The team finished an excellent overall 2nd on the day behind hosts Swindon and ahead of Camberley, Fleet, Oxford & Salisbury.
U13 Boys: The best results of the day were in the 800m with Joshua Hatton leading from the start and finishing well ahead in a Grade4 time of 2m 30.7s on a breezy day. Nathan Delavere also won the B race by a good margin with a PB of 2m 34.1. In 200m A string Nathan and B string Wilf Waldon both managed 3rd places. Determined thrower Gabriel Martinez earned 3rd in the Discus with 13.01m.
U15 Boys: 80m Hurdles, Lawrence Baker was a clear winner in a Grade 4 time of 13.0s, followed by 2nd in 100m in 12.8s and 2nd Long Jump with a Grade 4 5.28m. Good 800m results again for Callum Potts with a PB of 2m 21.7s for 4th place with Oliver Brashaw 1st in the B race. Saul Martinez-Goddard followed with a PB also. Callum followed his 800 with a win in the 300m B race in 43.3s. The day finished with the Relay Team of Lawrence, Hugh Beattie, Saul and Callum getting 2nd place in a great time of 54.8s due to some sharp baton changes.
U17 Boys: 200m Reuben Langdon 4th with an equal PB time of 25.4 and in the B race, Rhys Ainsworth 2nd with a PB of 25.5s. Rhys also set PBs of 12.6s for 4th place in 100m and 58.2s for 2nd in the 400m B race. Reuben took 3rd in the A race with 54.9s.
Each age group was 5th overall, which is excellent for a small team and shows the effort and improvement from all of the athletes this season.
The girl’s team started off well with Lily Gohara and Bo Stewart both coming 2nd in the U17 80mh Trinity O’Connor was 1st in the high jump A and Amber White 1st B with Scarlett O’Connor 2nd in the U15 age group.
U13’s Josie Robertson and Sophie Byatt competed in the 1200m with Josie’s sister Luci coming 5th in the U15 1500. Sisters Trinity and Scarlett O’Connor both did the javelin resulting in a PB for Scarlett.
On the track U15’s Sophie Cunningham & Amelie Roumignac – PB posted identical times in the 200m A & B strings of 29.5. Lilly Gohara (U17)also pb’d in 29.6s.
Miriam Cooper U13 (2:54.4) and Emma Downie U17 (2:32.2 – PB) competed in 800m as the sun came out.
Trinity O’Connor was 2nd A string and Lilly Gohara 1st B string in the U17 long jump with Bo Stewart getting a PB of 4.57 as a non scorer. Scarlett O’Connor got her 2nd PB of the day in the long jump with 4.04
The 100m races were well represented by Phoebe Ryder and Miriam Cooper for U13, Sophie Cunningham and Amelie Roumignac for the U15 and Amber White and Bo Stewart for U17
The day finished with the relay races with the U15 girls coming 4th and the U17 girls putting up a strong performance to come first in their race. A great end to the season well done girls.
