Wessex Young Athletes League – Swindon 15th July

Report from Junior Team Managers:

It was yet another hot track meet for Newbury AC on Sunday 15th July at Swindon.

In the quad kids eight girls and seven boys competed out of a maximum of ten allowed in each group. They all did really well and nearly everyone got a PB in this the last match of the season. The girls finished 4th with Anna Delavere continuing her great run and finishing top NAC girl scorer and 5th overall. The boys finished 5th with Ethan Robertson their top scorer finishing 11th overall. Collectively the quad kids finished a fantastic 3rd – they all competed so well and with a great attitude. 

A smaller team for the U13 girls upwards this meeting but nevertheless some great performances 

1st places for :

Trinity O’connor U17 Javelin 23.31m and High Jump 1.48m. Lily Gohara U17 80m Hurdles 12.4s for Grade 3. Bo Stewart U17 200m 28.5s. Francesca Bailey U13 Discus 16.99m, a personal best and Grade 4.

Other graded performances.

Grade 2: Phoebe Ryder U13 Long Jump, a PB of 4.41m; Grade 3: Phoebe Ryder U13 200m 29.40s and Clementine Barry U13 800m 2:45

U13 Boys:

FinleyHanham Grade 4 Shot Put 7.44m and 1st place plus Grade 3 Discus 20.17m for 2nd place. Aston Howse 1st B String 75m Hurdles with Matthew Cornwall 3rd A String with 16.3s. A String 1500m was Cody Long setting a PB of 5:55.1.

Wins in both the A and B string High Jump went to Ollie Lloyd-Hole, 1.20m and Drew Radbourne, 1.15m. Archie Matthews got PBs in 200m 31.8s and Long Jump 3.70m for B string 1st place. Also 100m B String 2nd in 15.3s. Ollie Lloyd-Hole Long Jump PB 3.90m for 2nd A String.

The finale was the 4 x 100m team of Archie, Ollie, Drew and Robert, taking 2nd place in magnificent time of 59.3s. The fastest for at least 5 years and helping the U13s finish 3rd overall.

U15 Boys:

Callum Potts 800m Grade 4 and 2nd A string in 2:16.9. Saul Martinez-Goddard 3rd B string with a PB of 2:33.8 followed by a High Jump PB of 1.35m. Marcus Bu-Rashid 100m PB 13.0s for 3rd place.

U17 Men:

Ellis Russell 3rd in 200m with a PB of 26.2s, then took 2nd in 800m with 2:33.6. Lawrence Baker 2nd place Long Jump 5.48m.

The last race of the season saw Lawrence, Ellis, Callum and Marcus join up for a fun non-scoring relay to finish the day with a magnificent 49.1s, making Basingstoke’s U17 team work very hard.

Overall Newbury AC finished 4th but, with a number of athletes away, those competing did extremely well on another energy sapping day.

We look forward to more successes in 2019.
