Sam Hall kept up his fine form to take the Hurstbourne 5 title winning the very hilly multi-terrain 5 mile race by 59 seconds in a time of 30mins 28 seconds, and shaving five seconds off the course record in the process. Jess Franklin thoroughly enjoyed the hills and was crowned Queen of the hill on her way to taking the leading Women’s title, finishing in 10th place overall in a time of 34mins 28 seconds.
Newbury AC throws squad youngsters have been in action over the last couple of weekends and once again put in some first class performances at three different locations across the south of England.

Thank you to Club President, Keith Scott for organizing another successful Easter Handicap. 37 runners completed the course with Liz Harkness taking full advantage of her 15 second handicap to secure a well-deserved victory. Fastest run of the day came from Sam Hall who recorded at net time of 9:12, ten seconds clear of James Craggs.

Basically the hospital has exclusive use Monday to Friday until 2:30pm and on Saturdays & Sundays between 4 and 6pm. Clubs have use Monday to Thursday from 3 – 9pm (Monday & Wednesday TK; Tuesday & Thursday NAC). On Saturdays Team Kennet have use between 9 – 12.30pm & NAC from 12:30 – 3:30pm and on Sundays NAC have use from 9 – 12:30pm & Team Kennet 12:30 – 3:30pm.
Please note that any club usage outside these times will be charged.
Fridays afternoon / evenings are available for hire by clubs or outside organisations. Requests for one-off or special events must be made to and approved by the committee.
Several Newbury athletes recorded PBs in Saturdays Newbury Park Run, Peter Crisp was first in a time of 16:52 with Erik Smith 4th in 18:50.
Sue van Huyssteen (pictured) won the ladies category of the Compton Downland Challenge (40 miles) in 6:27:13.
Newbury AC finishers in Friday’s Maidenhead 10 were: Steve Barnes (31st, 57:22); Dean Makar (77th, 63:37) and Dave Wright (78th, 63:46).
Newbury AC will be having a get together at The Lock, Stock and Barrel on 22nd April (7.45pm) to celebrate the efforts of athletes from club earlier in the day. To book your place contact James Craggs by 17th April, cost per person is £8 for the buffet. All welcome.

With a quarter of the year now gone, we have enough recorded performances to publish the latest Road League & Age-graded tables. Bonus points for PBs is recent races will be added in the next update.
Please note that it is your responsibility to notify James Craggs (Road League) and Irwin Fariclough (Age-Graded league) of any perfomances you want to have included.
There are a few changes to the rules for 2012. Bonus points available for PBs have been reduced from 5 to 3 and in the Men’s divisions the 5K distance is now included and an individual total score will be based on best 6 performances across the 7 distances.
Eight Newbury AC athletes took part in the Combe Gibbet to Overton race on Sunday 1st April. With glorious weather and stunning views the 141 runners made their way over the 16 mile undulating course, finishing at Overton to a warm welcome and homemade cakes. The winner was Sean Holmes from Overton AC in a time of 1:36:39. Newbury’s Sam Hall was 2nd male runner home in 1:37:47 and Marie Coultas came in 2nd lady in 1:59:50. Both are pictured with their “Gibbet” awards.
Other Newbury finishers were: Erik Smith 5th (1:45:56); Chris Hobson 16th (1:53:16); Karen Kennedy 30th (2:00:44); Bev Hall 50th (2:07:19); Steve Peppitt 74th (2:15:40) and Peter Choules 95th (2:20:20)
