Sportshall athletics was created in 1976 by George Bunner so that youngsters at his local club could continue to train indoors on dark winter nights. Sportshall became so popular that a format for competition soon developed and th efirst UK championships were staged in 1980.

Track events include relays of differing distances, obstacle races, hurdles and the hi-stepper. Field events include standing long and triple jump, vertical jump, speed bounce and various throws.

Newbury AC has all the equipment necessary to provide enjoyable training sessions in all events throughout the winter.
