Easter Handicap, Sunday 8th April

Club President, Keith Scott is organizing the annual Easter Handicap. This will be held over the traditional 1.8 mile multi-terrain course starting at 10:30am at Northcroft Park. The event is open to all club members, family and friends. Advanced entry is strongly encouraged and is free. Please e-mail Keith Scott with your details.

Berkshire U11 County sports hall championships – 29th January

Four NAC athletes took part in the Boys U11 County Sports hall event at TVAC on Sunday afternoon.  The team of Connor Humphreys, Tom MacAulay,  Ben Rudland and Charlie Wiggit finished a very creditable 8th out of 12 teams.   Continue reading

Alex clears 2.04m to break Club High Jump Record

Alex Craninx, who is still only 16, broke his own Club High Jump record whilst competing at a specialist High Jump event in Hustopece, Czech Republic on Saturday 28th January. Alex placed 4th on countback in the event but was jumping against older athletes. The first four all cleared 2.04m with RAC’s Ryan Bonifas just edging ahead into third. The whole event runs over two days with the elite women and men concluding the competition which is purely for high jump. An artificial track is laid onto the floor of an indoor basketball court and great support is provided by the local population. Seven of the Men’s Daegu finalists competed in the male event with the Russian Dimitrik winning with a world leading 2.35m with another Russian, Shkolina, winning the women’s event with 1.97m.

Berkshire School’s Championships

Sophie Fowler (St Bart’s) was the best placed of a number of club athletes competing for their schools when coming 5th in the U19 County Schools Championship on 21st Jan at Wellington. She was closely followed by fellow St Bart’s pupils Vicky Duncan (7th) and twin sister Charlotte (9th).

In the U17 girls race Sam Van Huyssteen (The Downs) came 14th, Jenny Pudney 18th, Katie Metalli (St Bart’s) 37th, & Sally Herbert (Kennet) 53rd. In the boys equivalent Will Tyson ran well for 17th place. U15 Fen Holland (Kennet) came 16th with Ellie Williams, Polly Mitton and Hannah Wolak all from St Bart’s packing together to come in in 49th, 50th & 51st.

U13 races saw Holly Blower & Lizzie Parker both from The Downs in 12th and 53rd places respectively whilst in the boys equivalent Matt Pudney & Gerren Scapens of St Bart’s were 25th and 79th.

As a result of their runs Sophie, Vicky, Charlotte, Sam & Fen have been selected to represent Berkshire in the southern Inter-Counties cross country match on 4th February.

CCAT – Open Throws meeting – 11th March

This year’s annual open throwing meeting in memory of Arthur Killbery will take place at CCAT on 11th March from 9:00am onwards. Closing date for entries is 26th February (no late entries will be accepted).

Newbury AC Club Tracksuits – award scheme

Sample Club Tracksuit

Newbury Athletic Club in partnership with the Ollie Johnson trust fund have introduced a reward scheme for members of the club who have shown repeated loyalty and dedication in representing the club over multiple seasons and or disciplines.

To show appreciation to these athletes we have decided to award club track suits to all qualifying junior (U25) members. These track suits will be available for a nominal administration fee of just £10 and are not available for general sale to juniors. Adult members can purchase a tracksuit at a club subsidised rate of £50.

Santa Fun Run – Marlow – 4th December

The 7th Santa Fun Run organised by the two rotary clubs of Marlow will be held on the morning of Sunday 4th December. If you are not competing in the Oxford Mail X-country fixture that day you might be interested in this. Full details here: www.santasfunrun.org

Under 11 – open Quadkids event – Friday 7th October – 6pm

Oxfordshire Athletic Network are holding an open quadkids event on Friday 7th October between 6 and 8.30pm at the Horspath athletic track. Each competitor will take part in Vortex Throw, 75m sprint, Long Jump and 600m run.
